POSITION:                  Alumni Exhibition Coordinator             
SALARY RANGE:        $5,000 honorarium
HOURS OF WORK:     Vary, Begins June 2017 ending October 2017


POSITION SUMMARY
The Alumni Exhibition Coordinator is responsible for curating and organizing the installation of the bi-annual NSCAD Alumni exhibition.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In consultation with the NSCAD Alumni Association, decides on the theme and direction of the exhibition.
  • Drafts and promotes the call for submission and corresponding ephemera (Online submission form, paper form, posters, email etc.)
  • Corresponds with alumni answering questions and assisting with the submission process.
  • Prepares designs for social media announcements, mail out and posters for the exhibition.
  • Organizes materials and equipment for the exhibition in consultation with the Anna Leonowens Gallery Staff.
  • Receives submissions and art works, arranges for short-term storage.
  • Proofreads media releases and compiles mail outs.
  • Organizes photo documentation
  • Attends and facilitates opening reception and corresponding events.
  • In concert with the ALG Director, responds to questions from the public & media
  • Ensures the implementation of maintenance and clean-up policies as instructed by the Anna Leonowens Gallery.
  • Coordinates the installation of the exhibition including volunteers and student assistants with the ALG.
  • Supervises and coordinates volunteers
  • Oversees the work of staff hired through external agencies (student assistants, catering etc)
  • Arranges for the shipping and packing of artwork.
  • Monitors exhibition budget.

Note:  These are the primary duties of the position; duties related to this job and rank may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the exhibition from the NSCAD Alumni Association.

SUPERVISION
Formal Reporting Line
The Alumni Exhibition coordinator reports to the NSCAD Alumni Association. In the absence of the Alumni Association, the Coordinator reports to the AVP University Relations for program and budget concerns.
Supervision
Supervision is broad and for the most part the incumbent works independently.  The incumbent coordinates her/his own workload, receiving assistance from the NSCAD Alumni Association or the office of University Relations on a consultation basis or when specific problems arise. The curator works closely with the Anna Leonowens Gallery as host of the exhibition, following the gallery’s PR schedule and additional exhibiting policies.

SPECIFICATIONS
A Bachelor of Fine Arts degree combined with one to two years of previous experience in a gallery context, experience in exhibitions/curating and museum procedures or equivalent education and experience is required.
The incumbent must have specialized knowledge of a wide variety of media in the areas of exhibition installation, lighting, museum registration methods, the conservation of works of art, familiarity with database programs and digital design software.  Experience working in a post-secondary educational environment and being a NSCAD Alumni is considered an asset.
Very good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing are essential and well developed organizational and time management skills are required to deal with approximately 120 to 200 submissions from all over the globe.
